2008-12-1 LIX 84 and Cyanex 272 were used as extractants for copper and nickel separation. 25% LIX 84 was found suitable for complete extraction and separation of copper and nickel in the mixer settler unit. These solutions after separation could be used for metal powder by electrolysis or any other metal salt such as oxides/sulphates.
Read MoreThis was observed through investigating the electrochemical behavior of copper and nickel ions separately in acidic mediums of copper sulfate and nicke l sulfate solutions. To selectively deposit copper from Ni-Cu leaching solution, potentiostatic deposition was applied and the current efficiency was studied.
Read MoreWhen copper and nickel enter estuaries they exhibit distinct geochemical behaviours. Copper tends to become associated with solids while nickel remains dissolved. Nickel is thus free to enter the oceans while copper accumulates in estuarine or near-shore sediments. Early diagenesis in pelagic sediments acts to reverse these estuarine effects.

The applications of liquid membranes offer a potentially attractive alternative to solvent extraction process and combine the process of extraction and stripping in a single unit operation.

Considering copper extraction and its separation from nickel and cobalt, a target CaCl 2 concentration of 200 g/L is suggested to be used with the separation factor of copper over nickel and cobalt of 138 and 1020, respectively.

Do this in a fume hood. The copper will be extracted by this solution of an ionic liquid in the aromatic solvent and the nickel will be left behind in the aqueous solution.
