Leaching gold with a cyanide solution remains the most widely used hydrometallurgical process for the extraction of gold from ores and concentrates. Despite the difficulties and hazards of working with cyanide, no other process has yet been proven to be an economic viable alternative.
Read MoreCyanide Leaching Chemistry Gold Cyanidation The reactions that take place during the dissolution of gold in cyanide solutions under normal conditions have been fairly definitely established. Most agree that the overall cyanide equation for leaching and cyanidation of gold is as follows: 4 Au + 8 NaCN + O2 + 2 H20 = 4 NaAu (CN)2 + 4 NaOH
Read MoreNow the gold is soluble. This method of making soluble gold is known as leaching. In the process of leaching, a dilute form of sodium cyanide is added into the ore containing the gold. Since gold is soluble after the leaching process, it is free to move through the membrane while the rest of ore cannot pass through the membrane.
Read MoreGold leaching in copper cyanide solutionsIn aerated cyanide solutions, gold dissolves to form the soluble gold cyanide complex Au(CN) 2 −. The stoichiometry by which this reaction occurs is known as the Elsner equation (Elsner, 1946). (3) 4Au + 8CN − + O 2 + 2H 2 O → 4Au(CN) 2 − + 4OH −.

In the mineral processing tests for gold cyanide leaching, it usually selects variables to test, such as grinding fineness, cyanide dosage, pulp density, leaching time, inflating volume and the temperature, pH, and ...
Read MoreCyanide with its competency to form a strong complex with gold, is the most preferable reagent for leaching of gold from ores. Cyanide leaching is not inherently a selective process since many other metals/minerals present in the ore are also readily soluble under cyanide leaching conditions. In this regard, most copper minerals are highly soluble in cyanide solutions (Table 1) although chalcopyrite and tetrahedrite are relatively stable. The presence of these soluble minerals may interfere with cyanide leaching and downstream processes for gold

"Industrially, it is very expensive to detoxify cyanide, but it still does not eliminate the risks associated with transporting, handling and
Read MoreCyanide leaching of gold is a very common methodology for evaluation of low grade gold ores. Despite risks associated with cyanide, the method proved to be highly effective provided that necessary precautions are taken. Gold cyanidation in field scale is mainly conducted through heap leaching and tank leaching methods.
